Senior Architect:

  • TITLE: Senior Architect / Design Team Co-ordinator
  • DEPARTMENT: Design
  • STATUS: Non-managerial
  • SALARY: Dependant upon experience

  • Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Senior Architect / Design Team Co-ordinator is responsible for meeting with new clientele, preparing and providing both proposals and advice. Not only maintaining high levels of client satisfaction, but continually improving client retention and ensuring Gary Johns Architects is a leading brand within the marketplace.This role would be ideal for an individual with high levels of relevant experience, wishing to progress within a respected and well established Company.

  • Meet with potential new clients, discussing their brief and providing advice
  • Prepare and provide detailed fee proposals to new clients
  • Prepare feasibility work and initial design proposals, advising on design, planning and other statutory and technical issues
  • Develop detailed design proposals and co-ordinate information provided from consultants
  • Liaise with planning authorities and prepare planning applications
  • Assist client agents with or prepare information on their behalf for tender
  • Develop and prepare detailed technical information and specifications and co-ordinate both design team and sub-contractor information
  • Prepare and administer contacts and monitor construction on site
  • Provide contractors with information or review construction work with contractors whilst on site
  • Review completed projects with clients and end users and provide final information
  • Delegate and co-ordinate the workloads of the office design team by reviewing all projects within the office and agree workloads with respective project leaders
This is a multidisciplinary role and the person appointed will require a thorough working knowledge of:

  • Microsoft Office Suite

Preferably the applicant will also have a working knowledge of:

  • Archicad (Building Information Modelling tool by Graphisoft), however this is not essential as training will be available as necessary
  • Working comfortably across all RIBA work-stages, and be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of building construction and UK building regulations
  • Be highly organised
  • Be Flexible, displaying a ‘can do’ attitude
  • Be friendly and approachable
  • Have good levels of attention to detail
  • Motivate and lead a team
  • Have the ability to multitask
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Have a polite, positive disposition
  • Be able to take on various tasks and be able to learn quickly
  • Have strong analytical and project management skills.
  • Work well both independently and as part of a team
  • Possess a UK driving license
Any combination of education and experience which would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying, unless otherwise specified. A typical way to obtain these would be:

  • A university degree in Architectural Design and or Technology or Building Surveying
  • Qualified with RIBA and ARB

And / Or:

  • The equivalent combination of formal education and experience
  • Over five years’ experience of working in an architectural practice in a senior position, involving the application of architectural and compliance principles

Senior Architectural Technician / Technologist:

  • TITLE: Senior Technician / Technologist
  • DEPARTMENT: Design
  • STATUS: Non-managerial
  • SALARY: Dependant Upon Experience
  • SALARY STATUS: Full-Time, Permanent
  • APPLY BEFORE DATE: Open Ended
  • Reporting directly to the Senior Architect / Design Team Co-ordinator, the Senior Technician / Technologist is responsible for assisting with planning application activities by liaising with client bodies and internal staff. Not only maintaining high levels of client satisfaction, but continually improving client retention and ensuring Gary Johns Architects is a leading brand within the marketplace.This role would be ideal for an individual with high levels of relevant experience, wishing to progress within a respected and well established company.

  • Assist with and co-ordinate all planning applications
  • Co-ordinate measured building surveys
  • Obtain quotations on behalf of consultants
  • Prepare building regulations and working drawings packages for both internal staff and external clients
  • Prepare working drawings packages
  • Carry out site inspections
  • Participate in design team meetings
  • Liaise directly with client bodies, statutory authorities, design teams and manufacturers
  • Co-ordinate design information
  • Review and suggest improvements for consultants information
  • Ensure compliance is met with client brief and compliance documentation
  • Carry out NBS Specifications
  • Carry out design and health and safety risk assessments
  • Ensure compliance with the companies QA procedures
  • Oversee other technicians work activities within the department
